Mark A. Frericks, age 67, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on July 20, 1956 in Quincy, the son of Anthony ‘Tony’ and Lucille (Lubbe) Frericks. He attended Catholic Boys High School. He married Susan Obert on January 24, 1976. She survives.
Mark worked in the dairy industry for 42 years, beginning at Deters Dairy, and then 40 years at Prairie Farms Dairy before his retirement. During a portion of this time, he and Susan also owned and operated Obert’s Cement. Following his retirement from Prairie Farms, he was a school bus driver for the Quincy Public School District, which he absolutely loved.
Mark was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, and his faith and service in the church was very important to him. He served on the Cemetery Committee, helped with fish fries, chicken dinners, pancake and sausage breakfasts, grass cutting, the annual church picnic, and more. His faith was very important to him. During the time surrounding and following his double lung transplant, he was often heard telling people that without faith, family, and friends, you don’t have anything. He prayed the rosary four times a day for the people who prayed for him and his family, for his donor and his family, and for his own healing.
He was a member of the Adams County Olde Tyme Association. He was proud to maintain and show off his dad’s Massey-Ferguson 65 and Ferguson 30 tractors on tractor drives and at the Adams County Fair.
His family was of the utmost importance to him. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and looked forward to having supper as a family every Tuesday evening. He shared all of his stories about growing up on a farm, what his dad taught him, his days playing football and wrestling in high school, and, along with Sue, showed his family the importance of faith, and taking care of and being there for your family and friends.
Some of his most special times were spent with his “Sunday Night Bible Study”, butchering with his friends, tending his garden and camping at the Frericks Campground with friends and family.
“Big Mo” was loved by many, and he never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by:
CHILDREN: Kimberly (Jason) Knotts and Ginny Lease all of Quincy.
